  • Trip Grade : Difficult (5 Star)

Rolwaling is a valley extending east-west just south of the Tibetan border below Mt. Gauri Shanker (7,145 m). It lies to the west of the Everest region. Not many people go trekking here and it is secluded from the rest of the country. The Rolwaling area offers varied cultures and stark landscapes. We begin trekking from the village of Barhabise which lies on the highway to Tibet. Following the Tama Koshi river upstream, we arrive at Bigugumba where there is a nuns' convent and then move to the barren landscapes of Beding and on to Nha where yak herders live during the summer. Climbing the Tashi Lapcha pass, there are views of glaciers and icy slopes. We return via Jiri where we catch our transport for the drive back to Kathmandu.
