Lhasa (altitude 3,650 m), the capital and largest city in Tibet, is the final stop for all travelers, pilgrims and traders. It is the ultimate in adventure destinations and the focus of devotion for Tibetan Buddhists: Lhasa is a small valley surrounded by hills of bare rock. The Potala Palace, former seat of the Dalai Lamas, watches over the city from the top of a hillock. Built in 1645, it contains a thousand rooms, 10,000 shrines and 200,000 sacred images. The Bhakor market that occupies the pilgrim path around the Jhokhang temple reflects the magical aura of old Tibet. The great monasteries of Sera and Drepung lie some distance from the city. The sights and sounds of the fabled city of Lhasa capture the feel of the mystical land that is Tibet.
Namaste ! Kindly accept heartily greetings from the Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal.
